Edited Persuasive Speech
We all get
education. We learn how to be an engineer, an actress, a doctor, a manager. But
there is no educational programme on how to be a parent while it's one of the
most important roles we play in this life, at least it's not the least. One
American actress, Mayim Bialik, said: "I came to parenting the way most of
us do - knowing nothing and trying to learn everything". So what if
someone taught us to be parents beforehand? Does education for parents make sense
at all? I believe, yes. People should get special education before becoming
parents. There are lot of reasons to persuade you.
The first reason
I think so is that people should know about problems they can face when they
become parents. They should expect sleepless nights, endless crying, problems
with homework, first love and the awkward age. Such situations are described in
the sitcom The Middle. There are three children in the Heck’s family. And
parents always have new challenges. For example, their daughter fell in love
with a boy who doesn’t like her. That was a real tragedy and parents had to
reassure her. They made a lot of attempts. But if they were ready for these
challenges, they would overcome them easier.
The second
reason for parents to go through training is to learn some basic rules of child
care. When I was born, my parents washed me in hot water, fed me cabbage and I
was always hungry. My granny who was more experienced saved me from starvation.
It’s about physiological things. But there are some things connected with upbringing.
My friend told me that the requirements of her mother and father had been
different and it had always made her confused. Our parents could avoid these
problems if someone informed them.
Finally, future
parents should learn how to be more responsible. Sometimes people can’t take
care even of themselves. In one Russian film Volchok there is an example of a
mother like this. She left her daughter to find a man, always drank and was
miserable. When her daughter grew up to be a diffident person with
psychological complexes. Also I can tell you lots of stories from my home town
where parents don’t care about where their children walk, how they study, what
they do and what they feel. But with the educational programme for parents the
specialists can tell people whether they are ready to be parents or not and
give some recommendations.
Being a parent
is really challenging, sometimes it seems that it’s impossible to prepare for unpredictable
situations in this life but nevertheless we can learn useful theory, about
things which we should keep in mind, and whether we are ready to be parents. So
that’s what I believe in and hope that I made you think about this problem.
Good job! The speech seems pretty neat now.
