Speech in colour

This time I will my speech colourful to highlight some structural and use of language things.

The first script is about strucure.

(attention-getter) "I came to parenting the way most of us do - knowing nothing and trying to learn everything", said one American actress and scientist, Mayim Bialik. (link)We all learn how to be an engineer, an actress, a doctor, a manager. But there is no educational programme on how to be a parent. And this role is important in our life. Does education for parents make sense? I believe, yes. (thesis) And the thesis of my speech is: people should get special education before becoming parents. (preview) There are some reasons to persuade you: people should know about problems of parenthood, get more information about child care and check their own readiness.
(main heading 1) The first reason I think so is that people should know about problems they can face when they become parents. (point support) They should expect sleepless nights, endless crying, problems with homework, first love and the awkward age. Such situations are described in the sitcom The Middle. There are three children in the Heck’s family. And parents always have new challenges. For example, their daughter fell in love with a boy who didn’t like her. That was a real tragedy and parents had to reassure her. They made a lot of attempts. But if they were ready for these challenges, they would overcome them easier.
(main heading 2) The second reason for parents to go through training is to learn some basic rules of child care. (point support 1) When I was born, my parents washed me in hot water, fed me cabbage and I was always hungry. My granny who was more experienced saved me from starvation. It’s about physiological things. (point support 2) But there are some things connected with upbringing. My friend told me that the requirements of her mother and father had been different and it had always made her confused. Our parents could avoid these problems if someone informed them.
(main heading 3) Finally, future parents should check if they are ready to be parents. (point support 1) Sometimes people can’t take care even of themselves. In one Russian film Volchok there is an example of a mother like this. She left her daughter to find a man, always drank and was miserable. When her daughter grew up to be a diffident person with psychological complexes. (point support 2) Also I can tell you the story of a boy from my hometown. In his 16 he couldn’t read and mixed up the numbers 6 and 9. His mother didn’t care of it. With the educational programme for parents the specialists can tell people whether they are ready to be parents or not and give some recommendations.
(summary) To conclude, it’s challenging to be a parent.  And we should try to prepare for some situations, learn how to take care of children and check if they are ready for parenthood. (action step) So that’s what I believe in and hope that I made you think about this problem.

The second script is about the effective use of language.

"I came to parenting the way most of us do - knowing nothing and trying to learn everything", said one American actress and scientist, Mayim Bialik. We all learn how to be an engineer, an actress, a doctor, a manager. But there is no educational programme on how to be a parent. And this role is important in our life (concise language). Does education for parents make sense? I believe, yes. And the thesis of my speech is: people should get special education before becoming parents. There are some reasons to persuade you: people should know about problems of parenthood, get more information about child care and check their own readiness

Finally, future parents should check if they are ready to be parents (precise language). Sometimes people can’t take care even of themselves. In one Russian film Volchok there is an example of a mother like this. She left her daughter to find a man, always drank and was miserable. When her daughter grew up to be a diffident person with psychological complexes. Also I can tell you the story of a boy from my hometown. In his 16 he couldn’t read and mixed up the numbers 6 and 9 (concrete and specific language). His mother didn’t care of it. With the educational programme for parents the specialists can tell people whether they are ready to be parents or not and give some recommendations.
To conclude, it’s challenging to be a parent.  And we should try to prepare for some situations, learn how to take care of children and check if they are ready for parenthood. So that’s what I believe in and hope that I made you think about this problem.
